Marina is a glass artist in Moscow. She works alone. She does not take commissions. She makes what she loves, glass art jewelry. Her work is exquisitely beautiful. It's hard to envision just how she can create these gorgeous pieces. You may enjoy just looking at them. Imagine how you will feel wearing one of Marina's original creations. Borosilicate (or "boro", as it is often called) is used extensively in the glassblowing process called lampworking. The glassworker uses a burner torch to melt and form glass, using a variety of metal and graphite tools to shape it. Lampworking was originally developed to make complex and custom scientific apparatus. In recent years, with the resurgence of lampworking as a technique to make handmade glass beads, borosilicate has become a popular material in many glass artists' studios. Common items made include goblets, paper weights, pipes, pendants, beads, compositions and figurines by mixing metallic oxides into borosilicate glass. The metals used to color borosilicate glass, particularly silver, often create strikingly beautiful and unpredictable results when melted in an oxygen-gas torch flame. Colors in the final pieces change when viewed under different lighting and even with the color of clothing. I purchase what limited quantities Marina has available. Each piece is a one of a kind original. I photograph the pieces when I receive them, and offer them here on my website. Price does not include shipping or 6% sales tax for PA residents.
